I was telling all of you about my personal accounts and the precious memories that I had while going to the Global Championship Wrestling show
that took place in Graysville,AL
on Friday night,January 22nd,2010
that featured the likes
of female wrestlers
SU YUNG
and
"The Voluptuous Vixen"
VERONICA FAIRCHILD
as well as some legendary wrestlers
such as
"Action"
MIKE JACKSON,
"Gorgeous"
JIMMY GOLDEN,
BRAD ARMSTRONG
"Loverboy"
DENNIS CONDREY
and
JERRY
"The King"
LAWLER.
Well this time in Part 2 of my continuing blog entitled:
"A double shot wild weekend blast of wrestling mayhem & memories in Birmingham,AL (well,at least up in the Birmingham,AL area)",
I will be discussing Day 2 about some of the many things that I covered & witnessed firsthand during the Global Championship Wrestling show that took place
at the Pell City Civic Center in Pell City,AL
on Saturday night,January 23rd,2010.
AND SO WE BEGIN!!!
After leaving the Maurice C. West Community Center in Graysville,AL
having a blast seeing the Global Championship Wrestling show there,
I headed back to my room at the Motel 6 in Birmingham,AL.
Before I turned in and retired for the evening,
I turned on the television and I saw a TV show that I haven't seen in a long,long time;
a TV show that TV Guide Magazine
ranked as
"The Worst Show In The History Of Television"......
"The JERRY SPRINGER Show"......
LOL!
I used to get that show in my area,
but that was like 3-4 years ago.
Anyway,it was great to see that show again laughing my ass off hysterically
while watching
those moronic,malcontent degenerates making complete buffoons of themselves.
Hell,I was even pumping my fist doing a "JER-RY!" chant as a guilty pleasure.....
LOL!
Saturday Morning came and I stayed pretty much in my motel room
until it was around check-out time which was around high noon (12 PM).
I left the Motel 6,
drove to get some lunch and then I was en route
to the Pell City Civic Center in Pell City,AL
ready to see some more
great Global Championship Wrestling action once again!
Call me crazy,
but I arrived at the Pell City Civic Center in Pell City,AL at approximately 2:30 PM.
There really was not much to do for me to occupy those 4 hours
except stay in my car,cranking up my car heater every now and then
and listen to some music either on the radio or on CD.
Ironically two of the CDs that I played......
repeatedly......
were that of KISS
"20th Century Masters-The Millenium Collection:The Best of KISS Volume 2",
a compilation 'Best Of' CD that had the song
"All Hell's Breakin' Loose",
the signature theme song of "Luscious" Robert Fuller and "Gorgeous" Jimmy Golden during their tenure as a very successful tag team
at Southeastern/Continental Championship Wrestling from the mid to late 1980s
as well as the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the 1978 movie
"Midnight Express"
that featured the unforgettable,timeless instrumental classic
by producer/composer virtuoso Giorgio Moroder
"Chase",
the longtime,signature theme song of the wrestling tag team
"The Midnight Express".
The doors to the Pell City Civic Center finally opened
and they let myself and the rest of the paying Global Championship Wrestling fans in.
Not that I am nitpicking about it by any stretch of the imagination,
but one thing about Global Championship Wrestling shows
is that they NEVER ever open on time.
Doors opening at 6:30 PM is nothing but a fallacy,
more like between 6:40 PM-6:50 PM.
Nevertheless,the anticipation and the expectations of a stellar,spectacular GCW wrestling show is one fact in particular that was never ever in question!
An enjoyable GCW wrestling show with the flavor of an 'old school wrestling' vibe.
One of the premiere matches that was featured that night was between
former ECW/WCW/WWE/TNA superstar
"The King Of Swing"
JOHNNY SWINGER
vs.
former NWA/WCW superstar
and
Southeastern/Continental Championship Wrestling great
BRAD ARMSTRONG.
I did say in a previous blog that I had written
in regards to a personal synopsis about Brad Armstrong;
something that I had also told him personally the night before at the Global Championship Wrestling show in Graysville,AL.....
"Like mostly every other wrestling fan along the Gulf Coast area,
I LOVE,ADMIRE AND RESPECT THE ARMSTRONGS TO DEATH!!!
Each of them are very unique,very special and very different in their own ways.
Out of all of them-
AND THIS IS CERTAINLY NOT A PERSONAL KNOCK TOWARDS ANY OF THE ARMSTRONGS WHATSOEVER-
I always felt that Brad Armstrong overall was the absolute best as far as speed,quickness,agility,skills and God-gifted,
all around natural ability and talent was concerned."
Brad Armstrong was indeed so greatly humbled,honored and appreciative
with my honest,candid synopsis.
As far as the ensuing match between Johnny Swinger vs. Brad Armstrong was concerned,
both men looked in fantastic,incredible shape.
Armstrong,which was obviously noted received some great pops from the GCW crowd of Pell City,AL
while on the other hand,Johnny Swinger did not.
In fact,the people in the crowd didn’t like Swinger at all whatsoever.
Swinger got the upper hand in the test-of-strength.
Armstrong regained his vertical base and began working on Swinger’s shoulder.
Swinger then resorted to the 'heel'-like sneaky,unnecessary shortcuts.
Armstrong got fed up of Swinger's illegal tactics and combatted those illegal tactics of his by giving Swinger a taste of his own medicine by throwing Swinger down to the mat by pulling the hair.
Sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire,
and the end of Armstrong's actions justified the means in this particular case.
Swinger clocked Armstrong on the break.
Swinger rammed Armstrong's head repeatedly into the turnbuckles in the corner,
the shortly afterwards clamped on a nerve hold on the right trapezius muscle of Armstrong
and Swinger at times illegally choked Armstrong's throat by using his wrist tape.
Crowd then chanted for Armstrong.
Armstrong battled his way back and jacked Swinger's jaw with a good ol' classic,
hard Armstrong right hand.
Then Armstrong,
whom had told me the night before at the GCW show in Graysville,AL
that he still had one more dropkick left in him,
well.....he took Swinger off of his feet with a standing dropkick.
Then Armstrong ate a boot by Johnny Swinger on a telegraphed backdrop.
Swinger covered Armstrong for a long and subsequently VERY SLOW two count.
Swinger then got in the face of Global Championship Wrestling referee
Rob Russo complaining about the cadence of Russo's 3 count.
Russo shoved Swinger and Armstrong caught Swinger from behind as he rolled him up for the 1-2-3 victory.
All of a sudden,"Loverboy" Dennis Condrey ran down the aisle
attempting to ambush Brad Armstrong
but he stopped dead in his tracks
due to Brad Armstrong catching him from the corner of his eye
all because due to the fact that Brad Armstrong was ready and waiting for him because Armstrong was not going to get jumped from behind like he did the night before by Condrey after when Armstrong pinned "Gorgeous" Jimmy Golden.
Condrey claimed he wasn't intending to attack Armstrong.
Neither Brad Armstrong nor the GCW wrestling crowd in Pell City,AL even remotely believed one word that came from that of the blasphemous mouth of "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey.
Condrey said he had beaten the entire Armstrong family.
He had beaten up Brad before in the past,but had never beaten him in a match,
so he (Condrey) wanted to face him (Armstrong) at the next GCW show event
in Pell City,AL,
a show that is scheduled to be taking place on Saturday night,February 27th,2010.
Armstrong said Condrey had been running from him for years.
He accepted the match.....
under the condition that there would be lumberjacks at ringside;
meaning Armstrong wanted to face Condrey in a Lumberjack Strap Match!
Condrey asked:
"How many (lumberjacks)?"
Armstrong in response replied:
"Ten."
Condrey said in his rebuttal:
"No problem."
After the semi main event tag team match for the GCW Tag Team Championship,
it was now onto the highly anticipated main event;
which was a re-match of the GCW show from the night before in Graysville,AL
that had a couple of some very appealing,salacious surprises.
It was former NWA/AWA superstar
and 1/2 of
"The (Original) Midnight Express"
"Loverboy"
DENNIS CONDREY (right)
whom had the exotically beautiful,
but very devious diva
SU YUNG (left)
at ringside
as he took on
former AWA World Heavyweight Champion
and WWE Hall Of Hamer
JERRY
"The King"

who had in his corner
the very popular and
extremely bombastically beautiful
"Voluptuous Vixen"
VERONICA FAIRCHILD (left).
As Veronica Fairchild and Jerry "The King" Lawler
greeted the GCW faithful as they made their way down the aisle
en route to the squared circle,
you probably remember the old proverbial attage
"A picture is worth a thousand words"......
well,here was a picture that I took that was worth millions,
as some of the Global Championship Wrestling fans bowed down on their hands & knees in homage,respect & immense adoration for "The King".
Before the match even officially started,
both Su Yung and Veronica Fairchild got into a very wild catfight.
The crowd in Pell City,AL went absolutely crazy when this happened.
The catfights that these two ladies had all throughout the evening
during the main event
undoubtedly without question
received the loudest pops of the night!!!
I could only imagine that the famed,heralded former ECW/WWE commentator Joey Styles would have had a field day if he had seen this licentious,frantic action taking place inside the squared circle while saying his trademark,infamous catchphrase:
"CATFIGHT!CATFIGHT!CATFIGHHHTTTT!!!"
Prior to the main event match,
Jerry "The King" Lawler got on the microphone and warned Su Yung that if she interfered during his match vs. "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey,
he would stick a fist so far down her throat
they would need a crane to pull it out.
During his wrestling career and in his days at Memphis Wrestling,
Lawler has had a long history of problems caused by Condrey and his partners, "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton and Phil Hickerson.
In this match,Lawler was going to return the favor in showing Condrey
as to why he is called "The King".
Soon afterwards,the match then commenced.
"Loverboy" Dennis Condrey went after Jerry "The King" Lawler like gangbusters with the fisticuffs.
While Condrey was celebrating,
Lawler gathered himself and decked Condrey with a haymaker
which thus put Condrey on his kister in the corner.
Later in the match and mostly during the match,
Su Yung interfered.
When that occurred,
Veronica Fairchild grabbed Su Yung
and then both ladies went at it again,
this time outside the ring.
However,"Loverboy" Dennis Condrey had a dastardly plan concocted-
an illegal foreign object that Su Yung had been hiding inside her dress
that she passed to Condrey.
Veronica Fairchild jumped on Su Yung once again and the crowd went nuts.
Condrey capitalized on the distraction by pummeling Lawler with the illegal object.
Shortly,Lawler mounted his comeback.
He landed a dropkick to Condrey
and he jackhammered Condrey with a series of repetitive punches.
Near the end of the match,
Dennis Condrey threw Jerry Lawler
into GCW referee
Birney Kawanawitz
which knocked both men down.
Condrey got his illegal foreign object back and tried to finish off Lawler with it,
but Lawler moved out of the way.
The illegal object dropped out of the hands of "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey whereas Jerry "The King" Lawler got his hands on it,
and needless to say,
he certainly put that foreign object to good use on one "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey.
After "The King" "crowned" Condrey by knocking him out with the foreign object,
Lawler threw the foreign object to Veronica Fairchild outside the ring
and went for the 1-2-3 pin,
but GCW referee Birney Kawanawitz was still down unconscious on the canvas.
A few moments later,
Su Yung threw one of her high heeled shoes into the ring
right to Dennis Condrey.
Condrey used that shoe to KO Lawler unbeknownst to the peripheral view of Kawanawitz
as he scored the tainted 1-2-3 win.
BUT......
Immediately following the match,
Brad Armstrong ran down to the ringside area and told referee
Birney Kawanawitz that Su Yung threw her shoe into the ring so that Dennis Condrey could illegally use it to KO Lawler with
to score the tawdry win.
Referee Kawanawitz called for the match to be restarted.
Condrey collared Birney and got rolled up by Lawler.
After the match,
an infuriated and frustrated "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey got on the microphone claimimg highway robbery
placing the blame of his defeat to Jerry "The King" Lawler on Brad Armstrong in which he boldly told him the he is going to pay for his meddling interference.
Brad Armstrong replied to "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey telling Condrey that he had the proper place as to where he will be putting Su Yung's shoe,
which in turn was building up some big time heat for their upcoming
Lumberjack Strap Match at the Global Championship Wrestling show
in Pell City,AL on Saturday night,February 27th,2010.
AND.....
As is enough fuel was not already being poured onto the raging inferno
that was emanating from ringside,
"The Voluptuous Vixen" Veronica Fairchild issued a challenge for the February 27th GCW show to face Su Yung,
or as she referred to her being "Skank" Yung
in a one-on-one Women's Match.
The entire GCW crowd was eating all of this up by the time the January 23rd,2010
GCW show from the Pell City Civic Center in Pell City,AL drew to a close.
Overall,the main event was a very fun,exciting and entertaining match
and the Global Championship Wrestling show from Pell City,AL
was indeed a very fun,very exciting,very riveting and a very entertaining wrestling show also!
After the show,I said my many good-byes and thank yous in esteemed high praise
to all of the fantastic,gracious wrestlers and staff members
that were involved in the GCW Pell City,AL show.
Then,I hopped into my car and drove 5 hours all the way back to my humble abode
in Moss Point,MS despite some intermittent precipitation and wet,slicked roads.
But nonetheless,I made it back home safe and sound around a little after 4 o' clock early Sunday morning (January 24th,2010)......
which capped off my double shot wild weekend blast of wrestling mayhem and memories from the Birmingham,AL area.
For those of you who have not yet been to a Global Championship Wrestling show,
I very strongly emphasize,implore and urge all of you who are wrestling fans
to please do check 'em out when and if you ever make your way up to the Birmingham,AL area.
Take my word for it,you will be so glad you did!
An incredibly,impressive roster of wrestling talent with an unlimited amount of spectacular,enthralling wrestling action as well!
